Colton returns junior to be Josh Straughan under center. As a sophomore he put up very good numbers and helped his team to the State Quarterfinals last season. I expect him to have a very good junior season and I feel he will make enough difference to make his team leading candidates for the SE League and a preseason top 5 ranking in the State.
Ty Jameson from Lummi returns with a season under his belt in Sandusky's system. He led his team to the State Title game last season and put up solid numbers in the title game. He returns surrounded by good athletes and the receivers to continue the Air Sandusky system.
Drexler Doherty returns for his senior season at Neah Bay. This young man has played a lot of football at the Bay and has a lot of experience under center. He is multi-talented and can beat you with his arm or his legs. Athleticism is his main tool and containing him can be a problem at times. His experience alone will help make Neah Bay tough to defend.
Derek Isaac for ACH is a run specialist and orchestrates the option for the Warriors. Just a sophomore last season, he gained a lot of valuable experience in coach Walsh's new option scheme.
Jake Hodnefield for Touchet is a good athlete and can both run and throw pretty well. He will keep defenses honest. If Touchet can find a running game besides him then they will be much better.
Returning Quarterbacks on the radar at this time...
1. Josh Staughan, Colton 2. Ty Jameson, Lummi 3. Drexler Doherty, Neah Bay 4. Derek Isaac, Almira-Coulee/Hartline 5. Jake Hodnefield, Touchet 6. Nathan Marsh, Wishkah Valley
*This list does not include new teams to the 8-man ranks nor does it include players switching positions. Just the 6 quarterbacks that I know right now that are returning after having good years last season.
Please add to this list anyone that you know of that should be a productive quarterback for their respective team next season.

Of these guys, I like Drex. He is very athletic and has a great arm. In the right offensive system he could put up some huge numbers. Makes me wonder what he could do in a 'pass happy' Lummi type offense.

Drex has sure matured so much the past couple of years going from playing in a spread offense his freshmen year and putting up some pretty good #'s to throwing maybe 8-10 times per game. It was a huge transition for him but he was still able to be effective in the little amount he did throw but as crazy8 pointed out Drex cannot only beat you with his arm but his athleticism gives him the ability to beat you with his legs as well. Having built a very good relationship over the years with Jim Sandusky he too said that he could have a put up #'s such as Dustin Tom did for him if not more. He told me the first time he saw him play as a freshmen he knew that he was gonna turn into something special. Drex has pondered over the past couple of years what he could have done in an offense like Lummi's, believe me being his father it was challenge to go to extremes from one offense to another. It was this past season that he was finally able to accept his role and be happy with it and was understanding that he can still be very effective in what he considered a "lesser" role. Coach McCaulley knew it would be a big transition for Drex and deserves a lot of credit getting him through it knowing that Drex has played most of football career throwing the ball. He has really turned into a big time leader for our team and continues to strive to be a positive role model for the underclassmen.

I have to confess, I've only seen him play 2-3 times in person. But, what jumped out to me immediately was his ability to go deep, and accurate downfield. I've seen a lot of great finesse QB's in the 8 man ranks, we had a couple in Taholah that had huge 400 and 500 yd games, but I can't remember seeing anyone that had the raw abilities that he has. I remember last year I watched him come in early in the game and throw a perfect deep pass. I looked at the guy next to me and said "Oh boy, this game is gonna be over early!" The next play he rotated out and they hardly threw the rest of the game. I was amazed. I hope he gets more opportunities to showcase his abilities this year, but don't think it's going to be easy with 2 potential 1,000 yard rushers. I suspect you guys will have a handful of games that end early as well, which will also limit his opportunities. I wish him luck, I'm on the Drex bandwagon!

chitwin 20, im to skeptical of a follower to be on anyones bandwagon right now, but Drexler definitely has a good chance to take his team far into the playoffs, as a couple other teams. In that respect i like the idea of teams from the south/north not playing till the playoffs. It seems like it sets up a pretty special quarterfinal scenario. Dont you think? So i am pretty positive we will see a Lyle/Wishram~Wishkah Valley~Taholah~Lake Quinault Battle in the South, and a Neah Bay~Lummi battle in the North not trying to exclude some teams, but with History in Favor.

I know what you are saying, there are a million variables that can change the dynamics of a season. By being on the bandwagon, I'm saying I think this kid is for real. He could throw for 3,000+ yards and 30 TD's, or turn out to have just an average season and go unnoticed. The thing that is special about him is that his ceiling is as high or higher than any 8 man QB. So, I'm not saying he is going to have a monster season (he probably won't because they probably won't be able to resist handing the ball to the 2 nice RB's they have), just that he is more than capable. Up North I'm guessing that Lummi and NB have too much returning for Crescent to make the jump this year.

I cant wait to see if Dexter is for real this year. He will be facing some of the biggest that the pac south has seen on D in a long time (Helberg, Maitai) if they do play in the playoffs! seems like he has been soft in the past few years, maybe just a different crew, but the guy does have an arm and if he has any receivers, it could be interesting. But b/c i am a pac south homer...Lyle/wishram's running back, and WV's size may set up a scene of utter pandaemonium for Neah's Drexler in the post-season.

I think it is pretty clear that both Neah Bay and Lummi are pretty loaded this year. They will have to duke it out once again up north. At this point, unless Wishkah improves dramatically, I really only see L/W (providing they can pick up where they left off) and maybe LQ (sorting out who they lost and what they have back) as threats in the south. Lummi really handled WV in the playoffs last year and after WV's top player got injured in that game it went down hill even faster. He was a senior. Yes, WV had some young kids getting good experience and they will be a year older and they have a couple upperclassmen that are good football players and the team has the potential to improve for sure. But can they improve enough?
Perspective...IMO Lummi will be even better than last year, and IMO so will Neah Bay. If I am correct on this then WV and LQ have a lot of ground to make up. Can they do it? This is high school football, of course they can. I hope they do as I would really like to see great competition between the north and south, but that will remain to be seen at this point.

So far Colton's Josh Straughan hasn't disappointed. He's putting up solid numbers across the board on a regular basis and this year has added the ability to scramble and beat you on the run. Find an opportunity to watch a future college QB.
