Just over 4 weeks until we (the kids) put the pads back on and begin hitting. Lyle/Wishram has 12 or 13 kids going to Whitworth Camp- a good mix of returning starters (5) and rookies (Freshman and others who didnt play last year for one reason or another). Who else is going to camp? Let's get some football talk started....... ;D

Bat and Glove will be interesting in the playoffs, many of the same teams from football including Touchet, TCP, ACH, Wilbur-Creston, Lake Quinault, etc. It will get the mood right to move right into spring football.
Gotta love a new season, new players, different names, a fresh start.

Coug Coach, how do you think you guys will do in your new league? What positions do you have returning?
I have you and Wishkah fighting for the top spot as of now. Wishkah has a very nice returning class. Shaping up to be a team much like the team that made a run at the title a couple of years ago (although not quite as deep). Quinault will compete. They never have a down year, but haven't had a "break out" type year lately either. Taholah has a couple of nice returning players, but likely aren't deep enough to contend for a top spot. Kings Way still has a ways to go before they are a contender. Oakville is at least 2 years away. MMK and WSD will be fighting to get a league win.

Do you guys know if the new leagues are locked in yet? Do we know how many bubble teams are or aren't going to be able to field teams (Easton, Highland Christian, etc)? I think there were 31 teams across the state to start the season last year. We had several forfeits on the Westside due to limited numbers. Any of those kinds of issues in the East?

Chitwin20, We have 4 returners on offense (end, tackle, guard, RB) and 4 on defense (safety, mlb, olb, DE). I already have 12 camp forms turned in and will probably take 13 (Matai hasn't turned his in yet but knowing him I will have to fill it out and hand it to his grandparents to sign). ;D We also have a bunch of athletic incoming freshman who only lost 2 games in 2 years of middle school ball (both to The Dalles 8th grade teams- most of who are bigger than me!! : I also have a couple kids who should have played last year, but didn't, that we are excited about. Our 2 weeks of spring practice and, of course camp, will go a long way in telling Hawksfan and me how we will fare in our new league. I have been asking around, doing homework on our new opponents. It will be an exciting year; new Fields, new rivals, new friendships. Our league will have a top 2 play-off with the winner going to the semi's. We certainly hope to be in that game!

Coug,
I hope the powers that be reconsider going with just the top 2. I think the crossover games have been pretty good the last couple of years, especially the 2 vs 3 games. It also insures the best 2 teams overall are in the semis. Last year it was 2 teams from the North, the year before it was 2 teams from the South. At the very least I hope we go with the top 4 in a 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3. You can't have too much football, and I think it's great that teams with a winning record get to have a chance at postseason play. Also, a lot of things change through the season, and a great team that loses early a couple early cannot recover. I wonder why the change was made?

Coug Coach, chitwin 20:
I am excited for this new year and look forward to fighting it out for the top positions, chitwin 20, you have a great handle on what the pac south (or Southwest 1b) is shaping up like. I think that Wishkah will have a monsterous run game and indications are that they will have a decent pass game also if they can stick to there game plan and set up the pass. I look for wishkah's Jr. receivers to be the pendulum for wishkah. If they shine, it will make WV unstoppable. Talked to a few about LQ team next year and it sounds like they will be small but have some speed, but i will never count them out. We all ways look for Taholah to compete and put up large numbers, but the big Question will be how does Lyle-Wishram fit into the mix? The North will be controlled by the same two teams, Neah Bay and Lummi, I just dont see a big change up there, but with exspantion and other factors we could see other teams creep up and be competetive. Both North and South are Notorous for hard hitting affairs with plenty of weather to throw into the mix!!! Get Ready BOYS!
This is how i see it early:
south: WV/L-W T-town/LQ/Kingsway Oakville/WSD
North: Neah bay Lummi / Crescent Clallam Bay/Highland/ Quilcene muckelshoot

wvhsfan, Do you know of any Pac South teams (or North for that matter) going to Whitworth this year? We have 15 kids signed up. (I already have the forms sent in)

I think Wishkah sent some kids last year and Taholah was trying to get some kids together last I heard, but usually we dont have a good camp turnout.

wvhsfan,
How do you see the Loggers Defense shaping up? What are your thoughts on the playoff format? I agree with your assessment of the North. NB, Lummi, & Crescent should be at the top, Muckleshoot and Quilcene the wildcards, and the rest could have trouble fielding teams.
