BIG MATCH-UPS FOR WEEK 5
Friday, October 02, 2009
================================
Colton (3-0) @ LaCrosse/Washtucna/Kah (4-0), 7:00 PM
*This is clearly the biggest game of the week all the way around. To me, at this point, this is for the inside track for the Southeast League Championship. Colton with their speed and L-W-K with their power. Interesting contrast of styles in this one. L-W-K has the home field advantage and have had the upper hand against Colton over the years, even when Colton has came in on a roll and look to have what it takes to handle the Tigercats. Power vs. Speed, L-W-K and Colton have not really been tested this year. L-W-K played against a Salmon River (ID) team that was missing key players, Colton played against SR also, but they had some of those key players suited up. So tough to gage the common opponent they have played. We shall see Friday night how it all shakes out
Almira/Coulee-Hartline (4-0) @ Wellpinit (3-1), 3:00 PM
*Wellpinit is 3-1 and has a chance to get into the playoff picture in the NE, albeit behind Cusick, ACH, and Wilbur-Creston (who has given Wellpinit their only loss). Upset? Not likely, but Wellpinit has an important date down the road with Odessa and Columbia to try to sneak into the playoffs.
Columbia-Hunters (3-1) @ Wilbur-Creston (3-1), 7:00 PM
*This is for the #3 spot in the NE as I see it. These two teams are the most likely candidates to finish #3 and #4, which order??? This game will go a long way in determining that.
Lyle-Wishram (4-0) @ Tri-Cities Prep (1-2), 3:00 PM
*Don't know...Well, Lyle-Wishram is 4-0 and have destroyed their last three opponents. They also feature the closest thing to Jim Brown this league has (and yes, he wears #44) in Henry Matai. TCP on the other hand has been ill and banged-up. Will Will Hoppes play this week (I have not heard wither way)? Are they back to full strength otherwise? Been pretty quiet from Prep camp, but things have to start getting better for them as it has been a tough few weeks of illness and injuries. This game does not have any playoff contentions in it. Lyle is a non-league game and they do not count towards League standings like they did last season. But this IS Lyle-Wishrams first real test (even if TCP is not at full strength yet), and since they can not make the playoffs this is their first opportunity to show that they would belong. No team in 1B has given up fewer points this year than L-W has (48 in four games).
Neah Bay (4-0) @ Clallam Bay (0-1), 7:00 PM
*Battle of the Bays, Neah Bay is heavily favored, but of course this is an epic rivalry and I had to add it to the "Big Match-up's" list this week.

================================
Taholah (1-3) @ King's Way (3-1), 1:00 PM
*Battle for playoffs in the PCL South...Is King's Way actually a contender or benefactor of an early schedule going their way? Is Taholah able to bounce back after some tough losses, even though they played pretty well in a couple of those? LQ and Wishkah have the upper hand in the PCL South, but another team will need to step forward. Which one of these two will head that direction?
